Therapeutic Knee Rod Set

The Therapeutic Knee Alignment Set is a specialized yoga prop designed to support knee health, correct misalignment, and assist in therapeutic recovery. It includes:

  • 4 high-quality stainless steel rods with rounded edges for comfort,
  • 2 adjustable cotton straps (80 cm) for secure placement above and below the knee.

Used by positioning the rods on either side of the kneecap and securing them with straps, this setup promotes:

  • Extension of the knee ligaments,
  • Alignment of the patella and leg bones,
  • Increased stability during straight-legged yoga poses,
  • Relief from discomfort caused by misalignment or overuse.

Originally developed by B.K.S. Iyengar and featured in therapeutic sequences such as those in Iyengar Yoga Asana Alternatives: The Knees by Lois Steinberg, Ph.D., this set is also useful for working with elbows or other joints.

Perfect for use in Iyengar yoga, physical therapy, or injury prevention. Durable, practical, and essential for anyone working on joint stability and precision in practice.

Brand: RUNTOYOGA

Composition:

  • 2x original RunToYoga yoga straps, made of 100% cotton with a metal buckle
  • 4x stainless steel rods with rounded edges for added comfort

Preparation:

  • Sit or lie comfortably on a soft surface (e.g., a yoga mat).
  • Ensure the leg is extended and relaxed, with no rotation in the hip joint.

Placing the Rods:

  • Take two metal rods and position them on the inner and outer edge of the kneecap (patella).
  • Do the same on the other side of the knee – you’ll use four rods total, two on each side (or both sides of one knee).
  • Place them as close to the kneecap as possible without causing discomfort.

Strapping:

  • Take the upper strap and secure it above the knee, about 5–10 cm above the patella.
    • Tighten it outward (toward the outer thigh) so that the rods gently press toward the center of the knee.
  • Then take the lower strap and place it below the knee, about 5–10 cm below the patella.
    • Tighten it inward (toward the inner calf) to further stabilize alignment.

Checking the Alignment:

Make sure:

  • The rods are positioned alongside the kneecap,
  • The knee is facing straight forward,
  • The femur and shinbone are aligned in a straight line.
    • If you feel discomfort, adjust the strap tension or slightly reposition the rods.

Use During Practice:

This setup can be used in seated, lying, or standing poses where knee stabilization is needed.
Helpful in therapeutic yoga, after injuries, for patella instability, or as part of the Iyengar method.
