Iyengar Yoga Institute Milano: Twelve Teachers, One Space of Practice
Milan reveals itself layer by layer. Beyond its well-known icons of fashion and architecture, there are neighborhoods where the rhythm becomes more human, footsteps slow down, and history becomes tangible. The Sant’Agostino area, close to the Navigli canals and the city’s former waterways, is one such place. Here, the historic urban fabric intertwines with everyday life, small squares, inner courtyards, and quiet streets that gently resist the noise of the city center.
At Via Numa Pompilio 3, just a few minutes’ walk from the Basilica of Saint Augustine, stands Iyengar Yoga Institute Milano. Its location reflects the character of the city, reserved on the outside, thoughtful and substantial within. The building does not seek attention. It offers shelter. This quiet presence creates a natural transition between the outer movement of the city and the focused stillness of practice.
Milan does not disappear here. It softens. It is precisely in this transition between the outer world and the inner precision of alignment that the story of Iyengar Yoga in this part of the city begins.
The Team That Shapes the Space of Practice
Iyengar Yoga Institute Milano brings together twelve teachers united by a shared dedication to practice, study, and teaching. Each contributes a distinct personality, life experience, and professional background. Together, they create an environment where knowledge circulates naturally, practice deepens over time, and community grows.

Connection to the Italian Iyengar Community
The studio is closely connected to Associazione Iyengar Yoga Italia, the national association that has supported the development, integrity, and quality of Iyengar Yoga in Italy since the 1980s.
All teachers are certified members of the association and work within a clear professional framework, ongoing education, and shared ethical guidelines. The institute is part of the broader Italian and European Iyengar community, not an isolated space.
Vision and Uniqueness
The institute is dedicated to the authentic transmission of yoga according to the IYENGAR® method, officially recognized by the Iyengar family. It is founded on precision, continuity, and respect for lineage.
What distinguishes the studio is its long-term approach. Practice, study, and teaching evolve together over years of work, dialogue, and deepening understanding. Students progress gradually, and teachers mature over time.
The atmosphere in classes is clear, focused, and supportive. Each program is structured so that yoga gradually settles into the body and daily life.
Programs and Class Offerings
The program is diverse and clearly structured.
Regular Level 1–4 classes follow practitioners’ experience. General Classes bring together different levels and encourage shared learning.
Programs for children and teenagers build body awareness and confidence. Ageless offers an adapted rhythm for mature practitioners.
A special place is given to pranayama, led by Chiara Travisi as a deeper inner practice for experienced students.
The studio also offers S.O.S. therapeutic cycles, Restorative, Tapash, Free Training, teacher programs, and in-depth weekend studies.
Classes are offered in person and online, in Italian and English.
Community and Students
New students are welcomed with a free trial class. The community is diverse and stable. In addition to regular classes, the studio offers free restorative cycles, lectures, and guest gatherings.
Stories such as that of Iyengar Yoga Institute Milano remind us that yoga does not live only in space, but in relationships, in the transmission of knowledge, and in encounters that cross borders.
Chiara Travisi regularly teaches in Slovenia, strengthening the connection between the Italian and Slovenian Iyengar communities.
At RunToYoga, we believe community grows through sustained connections between places, teachers, and practitioners. Through the project Iyengar Yoga in the Community, we create space for stories that preserve continuity and living transmission.
